The knfbReader Mobile from knfb Reading Technology is a major advancement in portability and functionality of print access for people who are blind or visually impaired. Developed under the direction of Assistive Technology pioneer Ray Kurzweil, the knfbReader Mobile software package runs on a multifunction cell phone and allows users to snap a picture of virtually any document, including mail, receipts, handouts, memos and many other documents. Our proprietary document analysis technology determines the words and reads them aloud to the user. Reading in other languages is available, along with translation between languages (optional). This is a truly portable solution to reading on the go, allowing users to read what they want wherever they happen to be.

knfbReading Technology, Inc., is pleased to announce the latest breakthrough in print accessibility. We have developed software which places the functionality of a reading machine into a multifunction cell phone. The knfbReader Mobile can be activated and ready to use with the touch of a single button on the phone. The user takes a photo of the print to be read and the character recognition software in conjunction with high quality text-to-speech will read the contents of the document aloud. At the same time, it can display the print on the phone’s built-in screen in large print if needed and highlight each word as it is spoken.  Additionally the user can snap pictures and read in Spanish or French as well as translate (optional).

The knfbReader Mobile:

•  Reads most printed documents, from letters and memos to pages in a book

•  Reads address labels and package information and instructions

•  Displays each sentence visually and highlights each word as it is read

•  Stores thousands of pages using easily-obtainable flash memory

•  Transfers text files to and from computers and Braille displays

•  Adjusts reading speed and reading voice to suit user’s preference

•  Ability to translate (optional)

In addition, the user can access the other functions of the phone device including making and receiving phone calls, personal information management such as contacts, calendar, etc. Also contains ability to run GPS programs, access to Adobeฎ PDF files, voice recorder, music player and much more.

Supported phones can be activated through AT&T or T-Mobile only.  Activation is the responsibility of the customer and is NOT necessary to use the knfbReader Mobile software.
